Dropshipping lets you sell online without holding stock: you run the store and marketing, while a supplier ships orders directly to your customers. It's accessible โ but not effortless. These four principles matter most.
Step 1
A viral video isn't proof of demand. Look for products that solve a specific problem, check search interest over at least a year, and avoid categories dominated by big brands or strict regulations.
Step 2
Your real profit is the sale price minus product cost, shipping, payment fees, platform apps, returns and โ usually the biggest โ advertising. Aim for enough margin to survive a few failed tests.
Step 3
Customers blame you, not your supplier, for late or broken orders. Order samples, confirm delivery times to your market and agree on how defects and returns are handled.
Step 4
Start small. Run modest tests, measure what happens and change one thing at a time. Most stores need several rounds of adjustment โ that's normal, not failure.

Dropshipping is a retail model where you sell products online without holding inventory. When a customer orders, your supplier ships the item directly to them. You handle the store, marketing and customer service; the supplier handles stock and fulfilment.
The main fixed costs are an ecommerce platform subscription, a domain and a few apps. The largest variable cost is usually advertising to find your first customers. Budget for testing, because most first products need adjustment before they become profitable.
Look for products that solve a clear problem, have healthy margins after shipping and ad costs, are not dominated by large brands, and can be shipped reliably. Validate demand with search interest and small tests before committing.
Order samples, check realistic shipping times to your customers, compare product quality and packaging, ask about returns and defect handling, and confirm the supplier can keep stock consistent as orders grow.
It can be, if you treat it as a real business. Margins are thinner than many guides suggest, so careful product research, honest cost calculations and good customer experience matter more than ever.
